Noonu is an atoll sofa. A bold evolution of furniture by Antonio Citterio
Sep 6, 2021
B&B Italia presents the modular Noonu sofa and at the same time a bold evolution of upholstered furniture. The novelty is conceived by the designer as a transformation of the B&B Atoll model released three years earlier.
"The theme of islands started back in the mid-80s," comments designer Antonio Citterio, "when we invented some new modifications with the Sity line. We started calling sofas 'peninsulas' and 'islands', but the terminology was still unusual. Today they are part of our everyday vocabulary.
The concept was born when the designer travelled to exotic islands. This is why Noonu is named after the Maldivian atoll. The sofa consists of elements which - like an island archipelago - can be easily combined with each other. The functional detail is a removable scroll cushion, which can be used as an armrest, headrest or as a divider. According to Antonio Citterio, Noonu is an "island" model which stands out in the middle of the room like a piece of land, providing a centre of attraction for the whole family and ensuring a place for everyone.
The novelty is already on show in the window of the historic B&B Italia boutique on via Durini in Milan. It is currently undergoing renovation, but representatives of the brand promise to open the doors to the public during the September iSaloni.
