Modulnova: An extraordinary transformation with redevelopment
Nov 27, 2020
A delicate intervention has transformed this abandoned apartment into a sophisticated living space in the heart of Turin. The cosy modern furnishings are complemented by retro elements, and the most memorable detail is the antique polychrome stained glass windows from the 19th century.
Prior to the renovation, the apartment was an example of a classic layout, with a central corridor and a sequence of rooms arranged along it. "The new owners had a desire to make the accommodation more functional, bright and with at least three bedrooms and one studio," explains architect Matteo Italia. Thus, the renovation project decisively changed the internal layout, defining the arrangement of the load-bearing walls and structural constraints.
The original corridor was completely dark: the intervention of the architect made it open, with several openings giving access to the kitchen and living room. One of the openings was supplemented with a smoked glass door from the Italian factory Rimadesio.
The Mh6 model by Modulnova was chosen for the kitchen area. It features a combination of high-quality finishes: lacquered columns and an island with a ceramic Emperador countertop, a black oak table.

To the left of the entrance is the dining room, where the main character is a marble table with anthracite grey legs by Bonaldo. The table is bespoke and complemented by Bonaldo Bahia armchairs in soft pink velvet.

The living room is decorated in pastel colours, with sofas in neutral shades. The colours are accentuated by the floor covering: warm oak parquet laid in herringbone pattern.

The night area, comprising three bedrooms, study, two bathrooms and laundry room as well as a dressing room, is completely separate from the day area. For the master bedroom (also equipped with a walk-in wardrobe), the same soft pink shade is used as in the living room, while the rest of the bedroom has been left neutral.

For one of the two bathrooms, the wall tiles recall ceramics of the past with typical floral decorations, while the floor is in oak.
