The Cut transformer kitchen by Alessandro Isola

May 6, 2014

"TheCut" is a prototype kitchen designed by London architect Alessandro Isola for the Italian brand Recordècucine and presented for the first time at the Milan furniture show. The composition of the kitchen can be easily changed, which greatly increases ease of use. The interactive space is formed by a parallelepiped cut into two parts. Each part rotates and locks into position. The line running through the main unit serves as a recess for the table, which can extend along the unit or rotate perpendicularly to it.

"The Cut" is the kitchen as a practical, yet central place in the home where you can take something to eat, gather for conversation, relax and simply dine. It is designed specifically for our daily activities," says Alessandro Isola.

The two units contain storage space. The use of different materials creates a contrast between their external and internal finishes. The fragmented hanging drawers with integrated LEDs also allow for reconfiguration, as the individual fragments slide neatly down out of the base, which is attached to the ceiling. The entire structure resembles the keys of a piano, emphasising the ability of this kitchen to "play" different melodies depending on the mood.
