Trends at iSaloni: interweaving artistic styles at the Kartell stand

Jul 7, 2017

The mere fact that the company's founder Claudio Lutti has been appointed president of the Milan Furniture Forum generates a great deal of attention for the brand and prompts a closer look at its products. We are talking about the Italian brand Kartell, which identified pollution (or contamination) as the main theme of its display at the last Milan show.

"Contamination" reflects the vector of the brand's development, which allows a mix of different philosophies and styles, national cultures and the latest fashion trends, design experiences and emotions. Kartell collections are based on designs by renowned designers such as Piero Lissoni, Philippe Starck, Antonio Citterio and many others. This year the maestros boldly placed plastic furniture against the background of photographs of 60s flats, showing that modern material can harmonize with retro interiors.

Philippe Starck has offered new interpretations of his bestsellers, extending his Generic collection of furniture for public spaces. According to the author, these 'retro-modern' pieces are inspired by different establishments and institutions: from Harry's Bar restaurant in Venice to the prison clerk's office.

Antonio Citterio's Bio Chair collection features chairs in new colours made of the innovative and very durable Biodura material.  The Ibiza-born designer Eugenie Kitlet has come up with a concise collection of table clocks in transparent plastic with the poetic name L'Air du Temps for Kartell. Finally, a number of big-name designers have developed a lighting collection for the brand: pendant, streetlights, floor lamps and Kabuki mini lights.

Bright colours, an audacious mixture of styles and the brand's inherent irony made the Kartell stand one of the most popular at the last iSaloni in Milan.
