Salone del Mobile 2014: Maserati by Zanotta
Apr 21, 2014
The updated Maserati by Zanotta collection was presented for the first time at the Milan Furniture Show 2014. This project is the result of collaboration between the two Italian trendsetters.
The collection is a continuation of the successful collaboration between the two brands that began last year when the Maserati Lounge Chair by Zanotta, also presented at the Milan Furniture Show last year, was unveiled.
The collection includes three new pieces: a footstool to accompany the Grandtour Lounge Chair, the Corina chair and the Maestrale table. Like Grandtour Lounge Chair, the collection was realized by renowned Italian designers Ludovica and Roberto Palomba. When creating a series of exclusive items the designers were inspired by iconic Maserati cars, conceiving them as separate items and at the same time as a continuation and extension of the previously created chair. The Exclusive Series embodies the philosophy and values that have long distinguished these two brands, namely avant-garde design and impeccable craftsmanship.
The footstool that complements the Lounge Chair was inspired by the ideas of sculptor Harry Bertoia, which combines superb technical craftsmanship with a great passion for formal experimentation. The frame of the chair is chrome or black nickel-plated steel, the filling is highly resistant polyurethane foam, a non-removable nylon cover and removable quilted leather upholstery in three colours: dark grey with light grey trim, grey with brown trim and dark brown with light grey trim.

The elaborate upholstery of the Corina chair with its many details and curves is reminiscent of a Maserati car seat. The chair's unusual texture, enhanced by the shiny chrome or black nickel-plated steel legs, together with the dense polyurethane padding makes it a comfortable and soft armchair. The removable upholstery is made of quilted leather lined with heat retaining polyester.

The Maestrale table has a clean and straight line; the steel frame is complemented by a smooth Canaletto walnut top. The table is equipped with a built-in drawer in walnut veneer or stained cowhide. The legs of the table are made of chrome plated or black nickel plated steel. As for the design of the table itself, Ludovica and Roberto Palomba point out that the combination of materials and the unique approach to working with them allude to the idea of technical excellence that unites the Zanotta and Maserati brands.

What the collection has in common is the subtle sophistication and composition, coupled with the highest quality workmanship. A pleasing addition is the unique collaboration with Ermenegildo Zegna, a leader in the manufacture of exclusive menswear. This year's Maserati by Zanotta Lounge Chair and its accompanying footrest, upholstered in 100% silk from Zegna Wool Mill combined with leather, are limited to 100 pieces. It is a kind of Maserati Quattroporte Ermenegildo Zegna Limited Edition adapted to the world of interior design, presented in a limited edition of 100 cars to celebrate the centenary of the Maserati brand.
Exclusivity, elegance and innovation are values that have earned Zanotta and Maserati a reputation for leadership, and at the same time these qualities have given rise to a common project that has now been extended and has become the starting point for future successful ventures.
