Opening of the year: Baxter House in London
Jun 24, 2021
It just had to happen. There's finally a Baxter house in London. It has nothing to do with the comics, the Marvel universe or the Fantastic Four. And yet the fantasticalness of the structure is off the charts.
In the heart of Clerkenwell, the glamorous and exclusive London borough and home to innovators of contemporary style and international architecture, Italian brand Baxter has found a home. The brand specialises in high-end, quality leather furniture with a distinctly 'British accent'. The brand is not only committed to preserving the artisanal traditions of the Italian leathercraft, but is constantly on the lookout for innovative solutions. Thus, the factory's showrooms are located in the most unexpected places: from an abandoned garage to a cinema. This time too the brand is going all-out and has chosen the former Old Sessions House, an 18th century Palladian-style building which at the time was known as the largest courthouse in the country. Hundreds of trials were held in the building and prisoners marched through the basement cells.
Old Sessions House (or Middlesex Sessions House) dates from 1779 to 1782. The three-storey building with vaulted ceilings and original brick walls pays homage to the past while reflecting a passion for design, architecture and creativity. Values that transcend time and that Baxter puts into its concept of style and well-being.
The space offers a sensory journey that emotionally engages visitors. Baxter's unique design follows the traditional architectural features of the Victorian and Georgian eras, resulting in an ambitious authorial experience. The company's bestsellers are displayed here: the Piaf sofa, the Jorgen, Nepal and Greta armchairs, the Lagos and Romeo tables, the Libelle shelving unit, the Hubble lamps and more.
Inside the exhibition space there is a lounge area and the Libertà bar, also furnished with Baxter objects.
New Studio is the official representative of the Italian factory Baxter in Belarus.
