Longhi Lotus: A story in marble

Jan 24, 2021

The Lotus table from the Italian factory Longhi is a story about nature and freedom. It is characterised by imposing, leather-decorated legs and a table top that is marble and brutal, which is unexpectedly warm thanks to the artful upholstery.

"I wanted the austere forms to show their 'soft' side, so I used metal and stone combined with delicate tactile textiles," comments designer Giuseppe Iasparra.

"Any object starts with a dream, a fantasy. Or, to quote one of my favourite writers, Delmore Schwartz, 'dreams breed commitment'. The designer's commitment is to translate the image into materials without sacrificing the function of the object. If a piece of furniture evokes the feelings I had when I was working on it, then it has succeeded,' says Giuseppe Iasparra of his new collection for Longhi.

For the artist, it is important that a piece of furniture can be personalised, juggling materials, finishes and accessories. The table, for example, can be decorated with traditional hand embroidery, if you wish. Choice is freedom, says the designer.
