The iconic Mercury collection: The Second Birth

Jan 25, 2021

At the first Milan Furniture Show in 1961, IPE presented the Mercury armchair and sofa to the public. The author of the collection was the sculptor Rita Valla. It was a truly revolutionary design for its time. Instead of horsehair, springs, furniture nails and other traditional materials for the production of upholstered furniture, the structure consisted of polyester filler and a lightweight frame of metal mesh. This made the chairs perfectly rounded and highly comfortable.

Today, almost 60 years after its presentation, Visionnaire has decided to bring the iconic model back to the market. The sofa and armchair are limited editions and have already become a sensation among connoisseurs of antique, vintage furniture and art objects.

"Visionnaire products combine craftsmanship and exclusivity that make them piecemeal, in fact collectible," says Visionnaire art director and granddaughter of IPE founders Eleonora Cavalli. - In recent years, our brand has placed an increasing emphasis on experimentation, exploring the relationship between art and design. The re-release of the legendary model designed by Rito Valla was a natural step, fully in line with the creative development of the brand.
